About
The Project
The WoW Dance Party! project is part of the UIdea event planning competition. Our goal is to bring together several university dance groups to sponsor a free all day dance event next fall. This event will give student groups the opportunity to welcome new and returning students to the university while introducing their groups to the Iowa City community. We believe that this will be a great way for students to experience what the University of Iowa has to offer. Students will meet new people, learn about student organizations and have a great time dancing! Here is how we hope to get everyone involved.
Classes. Several dance classes will be taught during the day by University dance organizations including, but not limited to, UI Swing Dance Club, UI Breakers, UI Dance Department, Irish Step Dancing and Latin Dance.
Dance. A Dance Party will be thrown that evening in the IMU Ballroom. Live and DJ’d music will be played by local and/or regional artists. Information tables will be set up for student dance organizations where prospective members can learn about these groups. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
Contest. The event will end with an Anything Goes Dance competition where everyone is invited to show us how great, silly and fun they are on the dance floor. The crowd will pick their favorite dancer[s] and prizes will be given away to the winners.
We need you! This is a group effort and we hope to get as many people involved as we can. We want to welcome all new and returning students to the university by showing them all the great opportunities that the University of Iowa provides. Please vote for this project so that we may start the year off with a bang!
UIdea
UIdea is an event planning competition sponsored by the Department of Interdepartmental Studies at the University of Iowa. The competition is between the students of two courses: 169:150 Recreation Administration and 188:111 New Ventures in the Arts. The students have the task of creating an event for the University of Iowa’s Welcome Week, a celebration held at the beginning of each academic year to welcome new students and to give returning students to meet with old friends. Welcome Week events are held throughout the campus, but for the purposes of this competition, teams created events that could be held inside or on the grounds of the Iowa Memorial Union. Teams could choose the day and time of the event. The only requirements are that all events
- Serve the mission and spirit of Welcome Week
- Attract a crowd of at least 100 students
- Be financially viable. Due to some information about potential donors and funding, we have not listed the budgets on this website, but students presented their financial research in class.
